Ukrainian beekeepers have once again amazed the world. In early September, Ukrainian beekeepers participated in the Apimondia Chile 2023 World Congress and the “ApiEXPO” exhibition held in Chile, as SEEDS writes.
One of the highlights that amazed beekeepers from around the world was the unique development of the Ukrainian company AmoHive, which not only presented innovative SMART beehives at the congress but also their own latest project in IT beekeeping.
In Ukraine, the first IT apiary of the AmoHive company, consisting exclusively of SMART beehives, appeared only this summer. It is located near Bila Tserkva, at the Baza “Baltasy”. The SMART beehives of AmoHive, which collect information about the bees and send it to a common database, were recognized as the best innovative and technological solution at the European Bee Award competition in 2022.
Since the launch of the IT apiary, the authors have started a comparative experiment on common Ukrainian bee species and created a place where Ukrainian scientists can conduct research and educational institutions can offer specialized courses and training.
This year, at the Apimondia Chile 2023 World Congress, AmoHive went further and presented not only SMART beehives but also their own data obtained from the IT apiary in Ukraine, as well as long-term observation data on individual SMART beehives in other locations in different countries. These are unique data on the development of bee colonies and they generated significant interest at the world beekeepers congress in Chile, particularly among researchers as a tool for research and education.
Visualization of hourly, daily, and long-term data on the life activities of bee colonies was presented for the first time in the history of the Apimondia Congress. This innovative approach by AmoHive provides valuable insights into the behavior and health of bees, enabling scientists to better understand these vital pollinators and develop strategies to save them. With the help of Ukrainian IT beehives, scientists around the world can now access real-time data on bee colonies, enhancing their ability to study and protect these crucial insect populations.
The development of IT beekeeping in Ukraine not only showcases the innovative capabilities of Ukrainian companies but also highlights the importance of technological advancements in addressing global challenges, such as the decline of bee populations.
